No camera, no microphone, no reason to comb your hair. Text chat is the one you can do on a bus, in a meeting you shouldn't be in, or at 3am without waking anyone up. It's also the busiest of the three queues, so it's the one that finds someone fastest.

Nothing is requested
This page asks for no device permissions at all. How you look and how you sound never enter the conversation, because the browser was never given access to either.
You're both just "Stranger"
That plus the country you're connecting from is everything the other person is given. What you add beyond it is your call, and it's worth being stingy — there's no undo on a sent message.
Leaving takes the thread with it
Skip and the chat ends immediately. There's no history left behind for them to scroll back through afterwards.
How interest matching actually works
Be specific, not popular
"music" matches half the internet and tells the other person nothing. "shoegaze" matches far fewer people and starts a much better conversation. The narrow word is doing more work than the broad one.
Empty is a real choice
Leave the box blank and you're matched with other people who also left theirs blank. Nobody's interest search gets hijacked by someone who just wanted anyone, which is why the empty queue exists as its own thing. One catch if you're signed in: the interests saved in My account still apply even when the box is empty, so clear them there if the blank pool is what you're after.
An account changes more than the interest count
Anonymous mode allows a single interest and a signed-in account allows several. But the bigger change is the rest of it: your account is prioritised when the matcher pairs people up, the daily limit comes off, and your setup is waiting next time instead of being redone from scratch.

"hi" has close to a 100% failure rate. Ask an actual question instead — "what are you supposed to be doing right now" works alarmingly well.
What the filters stop, and why
Text is the easiest mode to abuse, so it carries the most filtering. We don't publish the specifics — that would just be a guide to getting around them — but in broad terms:
- Abusive language and known scam or advertising patterns are stopped before the other person sees them.
- Sending faster than the limit allows pauses you for a moment. That's a pause, not a ban.
- Attempts to disguise blocked text are treated as the thing they're disguising.
- Restrictions escalate for accounts that keep doing it, rather than resetting each time.
- Reports go to actual people, with that conversation's transcript attached so nothing is judged on one line taken out of context.
Text chat FAQ
Is it really anonymous?
Yes. No name, no camera, no microphone. The other person sees "Stranger" and the country you're connecting from, and that's the entire profile.
Is it free?
Yes. Anonymous mode has a daily allowance — the most generous of the three modes. Signing in is free: it lifts the limit, prioritises your account when matches are made, and keeps your interests and settings between visits.
Can I keep a conversation?
You can download your own copy of the log once the chat ends. Nothing is shared with the other person, and we don't keep the transcript ourselves unless someone files a report.
Why won't my message send?
Almost always the content filter, or you're sending faster than the limit allows. Waiting a couple of seconds and rewording usually clears it.
Can I switch to video later?
Not inside the same conversation — you'd open the video or voice page and match again. That's deliberate: nobody should be able to talk you onto camera mid-sentence.
Does anyone actually read my report?
Yes — reports go to human moderators with that conversation attached, and the person you reported is never told who filed it. One report on its own rarely decides anything; what it does is build the pattern that gets an account restricted or removed. Which is the whole reason it's worth the click.
I was banned and I don't know why.
Check the obvious ones first, because that's what nearly every ban is: you must be 18 or over, abusive language counts even when it's meant as a joke, and sending explicit or scam links counts too. A ban follows the account rather than the browser and applies across text, voice and video — so a video session can be the reason, and signing out won't clear it. Still think it's wrong? Use the appeal form and say what you think happened.
